Now here’s the fun part when it comes to Christmas shopping — at least I think so. It’s fun to find my inner-kid while browsing through all the toy aisles in the stores. Even though Penelopi often has a wishlist for Santa, I still like to pick out my own items for her because every child loves a good surprise, and sometimes it’s simply nice to get something from mom.
Whether boy or girl, young or old, I’ve laid out my top gifts (both toys and sentiments) for the kiddos below.
Legos are such a great toy. There are so many learning opportunities, as well as creative freedom. Penelopi and I spend hours putting them together and then playing with them. Legos has a line called Friends, Penelopi loves those! This Friends Tour Bus is on the top of her Christmas List. The bus can open up to be where the Lego Friends can hang out. Definitely a great gift for my little musician.
2. BB-8 Droid
Star Wars is huge at our house. It has been very fun to watch Penelopi discover it, and fun for us to relive our childhood! I think this remote control BB-8 Droid, from the new Star Wars movie, is so cool. Robots are fascinating, and there are a bunch on the market… But the Star Wars Droid takes the cake!
3. Personalized Necklace
Penelopi loves to dress up and wear jewelry. This necklace is perfect for her. We always say “I love you to the moon and Back”, maybe you say the same thing to your daughter? The crescent moon reads “heart you to the moon & back,” and the star charm is stamped with a monogram of the recipient’s initials.
4. American Girl Doll
One of my favorite gifts as a child was my American Girl Doll, Samantha. A couple of years ago, I passed her a long to Penelopi. It’s is something we both treasure, and there is always something from American Girl on her Christmas list. They are definitely worth the investment, considering Samantha is still being played with! This holiday season, American Girl Doll is gifting one doll to a girl in need for every doll that is purchased. Every little girl needs a baby, they are a great way to expand the imagination!
5. Nintendo Wii
My guilty pleasure is playing Mario Brothers with Penelopi. Last year, Santa gifted the Sweet Family a Wii. We love to play together, it’s a great way to spend quality time together. Also, it helps Penelopi with practicing problem solving skills. So, I think this is a great gift for the kiddos!
6. Moon Night Light
Penelopi loves to learn about Space. This past summer, she and her dad visited the Huntsville Space Museum. I’m not sure who had more fun, Penelopi or Phillip?! Anyways, I was inspired by their adventure and found this moon night light. You can have a full moon, half, new, or a crescent moon. I can’t wait to hang it up!
7. Rory’s Story Cubes
Kids have the best imaginations, and we love to play games that help nurture creativity and imagination. I found this game, Rory’s Story Cubes, and cannot wait to play. There are no rules, you roll the dice and start the story. It’s a great game to take on your holiday road trips.
8. Banana Laffy Taffy
One of my favorite things to give to Penelopi is her very favorite Banana Laffy Taffy. I order only that flavor and gift wrap it. She thinks it the best thing ever! Amazon has every kind of candy you can think of. If you are local to Nashville, there is a great new candy shop downtown called Rocket Fizz, and another one in Greenhills called the Sugar Dive.
