Happy Holidays my sweet friends! It truly is the most wonderful time of the year with all the family traditions and decorations for Santa. This season is easily my favorite. I mean, who doesn’t LOVE extra sweets around the house, spending time with loved ones and making memories that last a lifetime?!
We are all about tradition in my family. One of my favorites is the “12 Days Of Christmas” dinner at my Godmother’s house. All of the family gathers around the table for what we know will be an evening full of singing and laughter. Each person has a salad plate with one of the twelve days of Christmas on it. Once finished eating the salad, we’ll discover which day of Christmas we are and the song begins! This family tradition never ceases to create laughter and new memories even after all these years. With our growing family, 12 days is not enough for everyone to be assigned a day. This year, Phillip has been assigned the task of coming up with 2 more verses so we can have our very own ‘14 Days of Christmas’ to ensure that everyone will be included. The clever verses are below. How does he come up with this stuff??
“On the 13th day of Christmas my true love gave to me, 13 fluffy puppies”
“On the 14th day of Christmas my true love gave to me, 14 grannies knitting”
Along with tradition, we can’t forget about dressing up the house in Christmas cheer. The day after Thanksgiving, the Sweet’s wake up armed and ready for the Christmas season. We spend the day as a family of little elves. Penelopi loves to help and be a part of this tradition. She helps pull out all the decorations, sets them up and even makes some festive decor of her own. It’s as if Santa’s little workshop can be found in our very own home. Below are some of our favorite, sentimental and handmade decorations that are spread throughout the Sweet household during Christmas time!
Phillip and I’s Tree
This was mine and Phillip’s first tree. Each Christmas Eve, this is where the two of us exchange presents after Penelopi has gone to sleep. This is also where we put and open Penelopi’s presents from mom and dad 🙂
Elf(s) On the Shelf
Meet Snowflake and Freddy. Penelopi can’t decide whether they are married or just good friends. They change places while she’s sleeping, leave behind some of her favorite treats and sometimes even use our potty and leave crushed up peppermint behind! 😉
Place Mats – Hester & Cook Designs
I love these decorative placemats. No need to worry about getting them messy because they are paper! Just throw them away and peel another off.
What are some of your favorite traditional decor pieces you keep hanging year after year?
