My sweet Penelopi loves to create. Whether it’s writing, coloring, painting or building. Creativity is very important in our family and we are firm believers that creativity expands and exercises our minds. Penelopi has taken art classes at school with drawing and clay, but she always gravitates towards pencils. She doesn’t really care for markers or crayons, but pencils are her thing. These pencils are actually one of my carry-on items that I like to bring for her while we travel. I vividly remember the first time that I saw Penelopi inspired by pencil drawings. Chris Coleman made some sketches for Penelopi because she rides horses and loves them. She was in love with his teepee drawing and decided to draw that. Phillip and I were blown away because she pulled out her little pencils and you could tell her little wheels were turning. When she showed us this, Phillip and I were floored. She was six at the time and drew it better than I did! Phillip loves to draw so I feel like she has seen Daddy draw and then drew this.
I also wanted to share a few of Penelopi’s favorite Arts & Crafts that are her tried and true. All of these come in super handy while we are out on the road or looking for something to do on a rainy Saturday.
Target Drawing Pad
We like the hard backs on these drawing lap pads. Because of the backing, she’s able to cozy up in my lap and draw. She always loved curl up into a little ball and create. This paper tool is the best for kids because it’s thick and you don’t have to spend a lot of money on them. This drawing paper is extremely budget friendly and perfect for her sweet drawings.
American Girl Doll Fashion Sketchbook
My girl loves getting to design and choose outfits for the dolls in this book. These sketch books are very visual and allow her to choose outfits for each of the characters. She feels like a real time fashion designer and it’s so neat to see what she is able to put together! I highly recommend these sketchbooks for any little fashionistas or future designers. Crayola makes one as well. It has an app that brings the designs to life!
We love to go to the ceramic painting places. They are everywhere! Penelopi loves to pick out a piece, paint it, and then give it as a gift to someone. She spends a lot of time on the details of the piece. Like the mug she made for Phillip and I, it says “Love you to the” and then she painted a beautiful full moon on it.
